THP Arrests LaFollette Man After Hit-And-Run

NASHVILLE--- The Tennessee Highway Patrol arrested a LaFollette man Thursday night after he was suspected of a hit-and-run fatal accident on the evening of Tuesday, July 20. THP Criminal Investigations Division (CID), along with several State Troopers assisted with and cracked the case.

 

Louis Bargy IV, 29, was taken into custody after investigators determined he was the man behind the wheel of a car that hit and killed 29-year old Michael R. Jones. The incident happened around 11 p.m. on Old Highway 63 in Campbell County on Tuesday night, but Jones’ body was not discovered until Wednesday morning. There was no information about the suspect or his vehicle upon the initial investigation. 

 

CID Agent Bobby Smith used parts of the headlight assembly left at the scene to identify the make and model of the vehicle. He then worked with Campbell County 911 to locate residences with vehicles fitting the description of a 2005 to 2007 GMC or Chevrolet pickup truck. While the investigation continued, two passerby on Caryville Mountain contacted 911 dispatch to report a damaged 2005 Chevy Colorado on the hill. Agent Smith and THP Sgt. Don Boshears went to the location where they matched the damage to the vehicle and found it consistent with the accident scene. They used the license plate tags to find the owner of the pickup.

 

THP Sgt. Dennis Smith arrested Bargy without incident from his Jacksboro apartment and booked him into the Campbell County jail. Trooper Jonathan Scott, who was the first investigator on the scene of the fatal accident, charged the suspect with criminal negligent homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
