THP Seeks Public Assistance In Search for a Hit & Run Truck

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s help in locating a vehicle and driver that may be connected to a fatal hit and run crash in Roane County. The crash occurred on Highway 61 near Harriman, Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
 
At approximately, 1:28 p.m., James W. Kirkland, 65, of Harriman, Tenn., was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Metro eastbound on state Highway 61 near the intersection of Old Elverton Road.  Another vehicle, believed to be a logging truck based upon witness accounts, made contact with Kirkland’s vehicle as the suspect vehicle traveled westbound on Highway 61. The suspect vehicle did not stop. 
 
Kirkland’s 1998 Chevy went off the left side of the roadway and struck a ditch. Kirkland died Sunday, July 25, 2010, of injuries suffered in the crash.  
 
At this time, the THP does not have a further description of the logging truck. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the wreck is urged to contact the Tennessee Highway Patrol in Knoxville at 865-594-5800, extension 2112.
