New Shelby County Driver Service Center to Open

Tuesday, July 27, 2010 | 10:25am
NASHVILLE---The Tennessee Department of Safety will open a new Driver Service Center for Reinstatement assistance in Shelby County on Monday, August 2nd, at 2516 Mt. Moriah Road, Suite F 710, in Memphis, Tennessee. The purpose of this new location will be for the reinstatement of driving privileges; no driver licenses will be issued from this site at this time.

The new Center’s hours of operation will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Once the Mt. Moriah location opens, reinstatement services will no longer be available at both the 6340 Summer Avenue or 3040 Walnut Grove Road locations.

Driver license suspensions, revocations or cancellations are often the result of a failure to pay court fees or neglecting to appear in court on a traffic or insurance violation. Fines and costs for tickets must be paid to the court of record in the city or county where the citations were issued.

The Mt. Moriah location or other Driver Service Centers cannot give license reinstatement requirements over the phone. To obtain reinstatement requirements, please visit www.tennessesanytime.org/tndlr/ online or call the automated toll-free number (866) 903-7357, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  A driver license number will be required for both processes.

In addition to the reinstatement-only Driver Service Center, individuals have several options to restore their driving privilege. With a driver license number, drivers can pay the reinstatement fee online at www.tennesseeanytime.org/reindl; however, driving privileges will not be reinstated until other requirements, such as court fines, fees and SR 22 (Proof of Financial Responsibility, TCA 55-12-114) have been processed by the Department of Safety. Requirement documentation can be faxed to (615) 253-2093, ATTN: Internet Reinstate. Once reinstated, most drivers will need to go to a Driver License Service Center to obtain a valid driver license by presenting proof of legal presence and pay a driver license fee.

Driver license reinstatement requirements can also be obtained through the TDOS Financial Responsibility Section by e-mailing FinResp.Safety@tn.gov  with the following information:

  •         Full Name
  •         DOB
  •         Driver License Number
  •         Social Security Number
  •         Current Mailing Address
  •         Reason for Suspension/Revocation
  •         Daytime Telephone Number

The Department of Safety accepts payment by installments for individuals who owe more than $200 in reinstatement fees and satisfy all other court fee requirements needed for reinstatement. The driver is required to make a down payment of $200 plus a $25 administrative fee at the time the payment plan is initiated. Drivers must then make a payment each quarter (every 3 months) of $300 until the remaining balance is paid with a maximum of two years to pay in full. Failure to make any payment as required will result in the driver again being revoked or suspended and will not be allowed to reenter the payment plan.  The payment plan agreement can only be processed in the Memphis area at the Mt. Moriah location or through the mail at Financial Responsibility Section, P. O. Box 945, Nashville, TN 37202.
