NASHVILLE – Registration is now open for the Tennessee Alternative Fuels and BioEnergy Conference. The conference will take place Aug. 15-17 at Montgomery Bell State Park in Burns, Tenn. The conference, hosted by a coalition of private industry groups and government known as the 25 by ’25 State Alliance, will give current and potential energy industry leaders the opportunity to learn about Tennessee’s alternative fuels and bioenergy sectors.

“This conference will bring groups and industry leaders together to foster discussions on a common goal; reducing our reliance on oil while helping the environment,” said Joe Gaines, Assistant Commissioner of TDA’s Market Development Division.

The 25 by ’25 State Alliance gets its name from the group’s goal for Tennessee to get 25 percent of its energy needs met from sources other than fossil fuels by 2025. The group includes the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Memphis Bioworks, the University of Tennessee Office of BioEnergy Programs and the Tennessee Clean Cities Coalition.

Topics to be covered during the conference include the agricultural initiatives, alternative fuels, emerging technologies, the future of bioenergy and the bio-based economy in Tennessee and sustainable municipalities. The registration fee is $120 and includes informational materials and meals.
