Tennessee Tank Helper Available at TN.gov

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Division of Underground Storage Tanks and TN.gov today announced the availability of Tennessee Tank Helper, an online training tool designed to assist petroleum underground storage tank owners and operators in understanding regulatory requirements and maintaining compliance.

“Tennessee Tank Helper is a free online tool that translates underground storage tank regulations into lessons that are customized to a specific facility,” said Stan Boyd, Director of Environment and Conservation’s Division of Underground Storage Tanks.  “This easy-to-use application should help Tennessee fueling facilities understand and comply with environmental regulatory requirements.”

The application creates a series of lessons customized to an owner’s facility and/or operator category, followed by quizzes for each lesson.  Once training is complete, Tennessee Tank Helper generates a training certificate and a customized compliance plan.  The compliance plan guides facility operators through the actions required to stay in regulatory compliance based on their individual petroleum product storage system.  It also allows owners to designate operators for training and track their progress.

Tennessee Tank Helper was designed to meet the requirements of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which requires owners and operators of underground storage tank facilities be fully trained by August 2012.  Tennessee Tank Helper curriculum includes training elements required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as part of the Act.
