TWRA Seeking Fields for Dove Season

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is seeking fields to lease for the upcoming 2010 dove season. The first phase of dove season opens at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 1.

Landowners who have interest in leasing their fields should contact the TWRA regional office in their area so that a TWRA official can check their property for a potential field lease. TWRA personnel annually search statewide to find dove fields that have the most potential for public hunting. TWRA began its lease dove field program in the late 1980s and has been very successful in providing quality hunting opportunities for the hunters of Tennessee.

The standard fall leased field is a harvested grain field. TWRA will lease the hunting rights for three priority days during September (Sept. 1 and two succeeding weekend days following the 1st). Dove fields will only be contracted during the first dove season segment, preferably during the first two weeks, the period of greatest hunter demand. Rates paid to landowners will be $60 per acre for a maximum field size of 40 acres for a total contract of $2,400 per field.

The TWRA has four regional offices across the state that interested landowners can contact: Region I (West Tennessee) 731-423-5725 or toll free 1-800-372-3928; Region II (Middle Tennessee) 615-781-6622 or toll free 1-800-624-7406; Region III (Upper Cumberland) 931-484-9571 or toll free 1-800-262-6704; Region IV (East Tennessee) 423-587-7037 or 1-800-332-0900.
