NASHVILLE --- Tennessee Highway Patrol investigators have developed a possible witness who is believed to have pertinent information to the on-going investigation of an apparent hit and run pedestrian fatality on I-40 in Mt. Juliet on Wednesday, August 25, 2010.

Investigators with the THP Critical Incident Response Team (C.I.R.T.) have determined that a blue, possible 2002 or 2003 Nissan Xterra, which was located at Daily’s Market on Bell Road during the early morning hours of August 25th, may have a connection to the victim.  Investigators are in the process of enhancing videotape of the vehicle. The video was captured by a surveillance camera at the Daily’s market.

The remains of 43 year-old Harold James Frelix, of Antioch, Tennessee, were discovered on I-40 near milemarker 227 eastbound on the morning of August 25th. Frelix was later positively identified through fingerprint analysis.

At approximately 5:42 a.m., August 25, Mt. Juliet Police responded to two crashes on I-40 eastbound in which vehicles ran off the interstate to avoid the remains of what the motorists thought was a deer. The Mt. Juliet Police Department investigated those crashes.   At the request of Mt. Juliet Police, THP is investigating the circumstances surrounding the initial fatality which is still being classified as a possible hit and run. Investigators believe the incident may have occurred sometime between the early morning hours of 3:30 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The THP is hoping someone may have witnessed the incident or might be able to provide information helpful to the investigation.   Anyone with information is urged to contact the Tennessee Highway Patrol at 615-741-2060.
