Friday, September 03, 2010 | 10:08am

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Board of Nursing has summarily suspended the license and certificate of Donna R. Huggins APN, RN of Burns. The suspension of her nursing license and certificate of fitness, including her privilege to prescribe, became effective Sept. 2, 2010. As a result of the board’s actions, Huggins was immediately prohibited from working as a nurse as well as prohibited from further prescribing privileges.

Huggins’s license was suspended for the following:

• a pattern of substandard care;
• inappropriate prescribing;
• unprofessional conduct; and
• deceptive practices.

Huggins has the opportunity to participate in an informal hearing before the Board of Nursing on Sept. 7, 2010 at 1 p.m., CT in the Poplar Room at 227 French Landing Drive, Nashville, Tenn. During the hearing, the board will determine whether the public health, safety or welfare imperatively required emergency action and whether the nurse’s license should remain suspended pending the outcome of a contested case proceeding in the matter. The conference will be canceled if Huggins declines participation.

Huggins was originally licensed as a registered nurse in Tennessee in 2001. She received a certificate of fitness as an advanced practice nurse in 2004.
