New Ramps from Briley Parkway/White Bridge Road to I-40 West in Nashville to Open

NASHVILLE – Work continues to progress on the state’s second largest Recovery Act funded project. Two new ramps at the Interstate 40 – White Bridge Road/Briley Parkway Interchange will open this weekend. One of the ramps will take motorists from Briley Parkway South to Interstate 40 West. The other ramp provides new access to I-40 West from White Bridge Road.
Motorists will encounter periodic closures at the interchange this weekend as contract crews complete paving, striping, and sign installation necessary for the opening of the new ramps. The closures are as follows:
Saturday October 2, 6:00 a.m. through Monday October 5, 5:00 a.m.
- There will be short-term closures on the existing ramp from White Bridge Road to I-40 West. During these periods, motorists wishing to access I-40 West will be directed to Charlotte Pike.
- There will be one lane closed on Briley Parkway South for the installation of a new overhead sign.
- The right lane of I-40 West will be closed in order to re-stripe for the new on-ramp.
The lane closures are part of the Interstate 40/White Bridge Road Interchange Modification Project, which will help improve traffic flow for motorists traveling eastbound I-40 to Briley Parkway and from Briley Parkway to westbound I-40. The $32 million project also includes the construction of three noise barrier walls, the replacement of the White Bridge Road bridge over I-40, five retaining walls, and the replacement of the pedestrian bridge located just west of the interchange. The entire project is estimated to be complete by August 2011.
