Media Advisory: Tennessee Honors Officers and First Responders

NASHVILLE--- As we prepare to mark the ninth anniversary of 9/11, the Tennessee Office of Homeland Security will honor 28 state law enforcement officers and first responders who have committed and sacrificed their lives for the safety and security of Tennesseans. The ceremony, also held in conjunction with National Preparedness Month, will take place at the State Capitol in Nashville.

Law enforcement officers and first responders actively promote emergency preparedness within their communities by creating policy and procedures, training staff and volunteers or responding directly to an emergency. A variety of first responders, including state and local police, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and emergency management officials work daily to ensure the safety and security of Tennessee.
The Tennessee Department of Safety’s mission is (www.tennessee.gov/safety) to ensure the safety and general welfare of the public. The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
