Bridge Replacement Project Requires Long Term Lane Closures on Gallatin Road

NASHVILLE – – Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) contract crews are almost underway with the second phase of construction to replace two deteriorating bridges on Gallatin Road in northern Davidson County. The bridges cross over the CSX Railroad near Anderson Lane in Madison, with one bridge carrying northbound traffic and the other carrying southbound traffic on Gallatin Road.

From now through May 2014, Gallatin Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction in this area

By the middle of June 2013, all traffic should be shifted to the new southbound bridge, while crews work to demolish the northbound bridge.

The first phase of construction was completed in June 2013.  This phase was delayed due to utility issues.  During the initial demolition phase of the project, underground utilities in the area were discovered to be in conflict with the proposed bridge plans.  This is fairly typical when working in an urban area.  The TN Department of Transportation re-designed a portion of the bridge to avoid having to relocate the utilities and delay the project even further.

The entire project is expected to be complete by May 2014.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and seek an alternate route around the work zone, particularly those heading to and from Hendersonville and Nashville during rush hour. Law enforcement officers will be on-site in the work zone to provide traffic control as the work is being completed. TDOT also asks drivers to use caution, reduce their speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in work zones across the state.
