Media Advisory: THP Set to Announce Trooper & Dispatcher of the Year

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol will host its 2010 Trooper and Dispatcher of the Year Ceremony on Friday, February 18 at the Department of Safety and Homeland Security’s Training Center in Nashville. The recognition service will honor a dispatcher and trooper of the year from each of the Highway Patrol’s eight districts. Several other categories will be recognized this year, including Investigator of the Year, Interdiction Troopers of the Year, and the top 10 DUI Enforcement Troopers.

There are currently 775 members of the Highway Patrol and 91 THP Communication Dispatchers and Supervisors that serve the Department of Safety and Homeland Security statewide. The THP, who enforce motor vehicle, driver license and criminal laws, have branch offices located in each of Tennessee’s 95 counties including eight District Headquarters. Last year, the Highway Patrol’s Communication Dispatchers handled more than 324,106 calls for service.
The Tennessee Department of Safety’s (www.TN.Gov/Safety) mission is to ensure the safety and general welfare of the public. The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
