MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two separate projects will require lane closures on Interstate 40 in Shelby County this weekend and next week. The closures are as follows:

I-40 East over Sam Cooper Boulevard (MM 14.3) - Friday, March 11 at 8:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 16 – I-40 East will have two lanes closed and two lanes open. Sam Cooper Boulevard will have one lane closed and one lane open. This weekend’s lane reductions are necessary for crews to safely remove and repair the bridge deck above and below the Interstate. The work will continue for several more weekends.

I-40 East and West (MM 21.3) - Friday, March 11 at 8:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. Monday, March 14 – I-40 East and West will have lane closures at the Davies Plantation overpass for bridge repair. One lane will remain open in each direction.

Previous closures for this project have resulted in lengthy back-ups on Interstate 40. All work is weather dependent.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and expect delays. Law enforcement officers will be on site in the work zones to provide traffic control as the work is being completed. TDOT also asks drivers to use caution, reduce their speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in work zones across the state.
