NASHVILLE- Commissioner Julie Mix McPeak has made appointments to key leadership posts within the Department of Commerce and Insurance.

“I’m very pleased with the leadership team we have,” says McPeak. “Commerce and Insurance regulates a broad range of industries and professionals. Balancing the needs of consumers and business owners alike requires the skills of some very versatile and dedicated individuals.”

At Commerce and Insurance:

  • Steven Majchrzak is now the deputy commissioner. He previously served a joint role of assistant commissioner over administration and the regulatory boards. Majchrzak has held roles in both the public and private sectors. He worked in Nashville-Metro government and, before joining TDCI, worked for eight years directing product development for leading education technology companies.
  • Bill Giannini will take the helm of the regulatory boards, serving as assistant commissioner. Giannini, the owner of Little Italy Pizza in Memphis, has resigned from the Shelby County Election Commission, which he joined April 2009.
  • Gary West has taken the lead of the Fire Prevention Division, serving as the assistant commissioner. West’s work in the fire service industry dates back to 1976, when he started his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Graham County Volunteer Fire Department in Robbinsville, N.C. He has held numerous roles in public safety since, including fire chief of Gatlinburg, and most recently was with the University of Tennessee’s Institute of Public Service as a fire management consultant.
