NASHVILLE, Tenn. – According to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, Interstate 40 West has reopened after flood waters from the White River receded overnight. A section of the interstate at mile marker 216, which is about 80 miles west of Memphis, closed last week due to high water.

In Tennessee, numerous state routes in Shelby, Lake and Dyer Counties remain closed as a result of floodwaters. TDOT expects the closures to remain in place for several days until flooding from the Mississippi River begins to recede.

Motorists traveling in the western areas of the state are encouraged to use extreme caution. Up to date road closure and travel information can be accessed by visiting www.tn.gov/tdot/tdotsmartway or dialing 5-1-1 from any land line or cell phone. Motorists are reminded to use all motorist information tools responsibly. Drivers should refrain from texting, tweeting or using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle. TDOT advises drivers to "Know before you go!" by checking traffic conditions before leaving for their destination.
