Tennessee and Alabama Team Up for Hands Across the Border

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) is teaming up with law enforcement across the state and in bordering states to reduce roadway fatalities through enforcement and education. The GHSO will join Tennessee and Alabama law enforcement agencies for a Click It or Ticket enforcement blitz on Friday, May 13. The agencies will have media availability Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. CDT at the Kimball Police Department with the enforcement event to follow on Highway 72 at the Alabama state line.

Safety advocates created the Hands Across the Border campaign in 1991 to bring about more awareness of safety belt and child safety seat use across the southeastern states. Participating state and local enforcement agencies sponsor education and community outreach events and provide motorists with literature about the dangers of drunk driving, as well as the importance of safety belt and proper child safety seat use. Law enforcement officials are buckling down on those not buckled up this summer and will show zero tolerance for anyone caught speeding, driving impaired or not wearing a safety belt.
