Media Advisory: Deputy Governor Claude Ramsey to Pay Tribute to THP Fallen Officers

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons will welcome Deputy Governor Claude Ramsey as keynote speaker for the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s annual Memorial Service on Friday, May 20, 2011. THP Colonel Tracy Trott, THP Command staff, active and retired State Troopers, legislators and survivors of fallen officers will also be on hand to commemorate 39 Tennessee State Troopers, as well as more than 19,000 officers in the United States, who have died in the line of duty.

In conjunction with National Police Week (May 15-21), the THP Memorial Service will feature a roll call of fallen officers, a 21-gun salute and a special flyover by THP’s Special Operations Unit. The Highway Patrol’s Honor Guard will present the colors, while Commissioner Gibbons, Deputy Commissioner Larry Godwin, and Colonel Trott will lay the wreaths. Bagpipers will also perform “Amazing Grace” at the ceremony.
