BOW Events Upcoming

NASHVILLE --- Applications are still being accepted for two Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) events to be held in June.

 

The 2011 BOW workshop will be held June 10-12 in Crossville at the Clyde M. York 4-H Center. The 2011 BOW Field Day is June 18 in Knoxville at the John Sevier Hunter Education Facility.

 

The relaxed atmosphere of each of the BOW events is primarily aimed at women, and is an opportunity for anyone 18 or older to learn outdoor skills usually associated with hunting and fishing. However, it is useful for many other outdoor pursuits and interests. Participants will have a chance to take a variety of courses and the classes are taught by experts in their respective fields.

 

This year’s workshop will include classes in firearms and firearms safety, basic fishing skills, advanced fishing techniques, all-terrain vehicle operation, basic archery, boating safety education, outdoor cooking, introduction to hiking/camping/backpacking, beginning fly fishing, nature photography basics, basic canoeing, basic shotgun, backyard habitat, map and compass, introduction to muzzleloading, introduction to turkey hunting, introduction to deer hunting, introduction to waterfowl hunting, reading the woods, introduction to trapping and animal damage control, stream ecology, and boat trailer basics.

 

The workshop fee is $175 and includes lodging at the Clyde M York 4-H Center, meals, T-shirt, and a 2011-12 Tennessee Hunting and Fishing License. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.

 

At the field day, classes will be conducted in all-terrain vehicle operation, introduction to pistol shooting. Introduction to firearms, nature photography basics, dutch oven cooking, women’s self defense, backyard habitat, boating safety education, and basic archery.

 

Participants will be able to participate in two classes. The cost is $25 per person and includes lunch.
