Southeast Davidson County Driver Services Center to Offer Reinstatement-Only

Monday, June 27, 2011 | 12:18pm
NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security will convert the Express Driver Service Center located at 1601 Murfreesboro Road in Nashville to a Reinstatement-Only Service Center effective Friday, July 1, 2011. With this new service, reinstatements will no longer be provided at driver service centers on Centennial Boulevard and Hart Lane in Nashville. The move is part of an overall effort to improve effectiveness and efficiency in the Nashville metropolitan area.

“We are conducting a top to bottom review of the department’s driver services, with one of our primary goals being a reduction in the average wait time at our driver service centers. As a pilot, we are designating one center in the Nashville area to handle reinstatements only, freeing up the other centers to handle more routine transactions. We want to see how this approach works,” said the department’s Commissioner, Bill Gibbons.

The new Reinstatement-only Southeast Reinstatement Driver Service Center on Murfreesboro Road will be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  This center will provide services to those customers whose driving privilege has either been revoked, suspended, or such action is pending. Once a customer has his or her driving privilege reinstated, the center will also be able to issue the customer a new driver license upon presentation of legal presence and payment of a driver license fee.

The Southeast Reinstatement Center and other Driver Service Centers cannot give license reinstatement requirements over the phone. To obtain reinstatement requirements, please visit https://apps.tn.gov/tndlr/ online or call the automated toll-free number (866) 903-7357, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A driver license number will be required for both processes.

In addition to the reinstatement-only Driver Service Center, individuals have several options to restore their driving privilege. With a driver license number, drivers can pay the reinstatement fee online at http://apps.tn.gov/tndlr/; however, driving privileges will not be reinstated until other requirements, such as court fines, fees and SR 22 (Proof of Financial Responsibility) have been processed by the Department of Safety and Homeland Security. Required documentation can be faxed to (615) 253-2093, ATTN: Internet Reinstate. Once reinstated through this process, most drivers will still be able to go to any Driver License Service Center to obtain a valid driver license by presenting proof of legal presence and pay a driver license fee.

Driver license reinstatement requirements can also be obtained through the TDOS Financial Responsibility Section by emailing FinResp.Safety@tn.gov  with the following information:

§   Full Name
§   DOB
§   Driver License Number
§   Social Security Number
§   Current Mailing Address
§   Reason for Suspension/Revocation
§   Daytime Telephone Number

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security accepts payment by installments for individuals who owe more than $200 in reinstatement fees and satisfy all other requirements needed for reinstatement. The driver is required to make a down payment of $200 plus a $25 administrative fee at the time the payment plan is initiated. Drivers must then make a payment each quarter (every 3 months) of $300 until the remaining balance is paid with a maximum of two years to pay in full. Failure to make any payment as required will result in the driver again being revoked or suspended and will not be allowed to reenter the payment plan. The payment plan agreement can only be processed at the Southeast location or through the mail at Financial Responsibility Section, P. O. Box 945, Nashville, TN 37202.
