Bridge Inspection on Interstate 40 Hernando DeSoto Bridge

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –The annual bridge inspection of the Interstate 40 Hernando-DeSoto Bridge begins tomorrow. Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) will close one eastbound lane Wednesday, June 8 and Thursday, June 9 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day. The eastbound closures will continue into the next week beginning Monday and will continue through Thursday, each day from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Following the inspection of the eastbound side AHTD will close one lane on the westbound side for crews to safely inspect the bridge. 
 
The closures will last approximately 4 weeks, all weather dependent. The lane closures will not be in place during the July 4th holiday weekend.
 
Motorists traveling on I-40 in the western part of the state are encouraged to use extreme caution. Motorists are reminded to use all motorist information tools responsibly. Drivers should refrain from texting, tweeting or using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle. TDOT advises drivers to "Know before you go!" by checking traffic conditions before leaving for their destination.
