Weekly Construction Report for Parts of East and Middle Tennessee for July 14 - 20, 2011

BRADLEY COUNTY, SR-60 (Dalton Pike) road widening from near Gilliland Road to U.S. 64 (SR-311): The contractor will be clearing, relocating utilities, and building substructures and will use a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project. Estimated project completion date is June 2012. 

BRADLEY COUNTY, SR-60 construction of two concrete box bridges over Greasy Creek (LM 21.02) and Branch Creek (LM 24.28) including grading, drainage and paving: The contractor is constructing two new box bridges on SR-60. Road work will begin on Georgetown end of project. Traffic flow should have minimal interruptions. Utility work will be taking place on the Hopewell end of the project right-of-way throughout the week. Estimated project completion date is April 2012. 
 
CANNON COUNTY, US-70S (SR-1), construction of a concrete I-Beam bridge over Hill Creek (LM 7.23), including grading, drainage and paving: There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project. The existing bridge will remain open until construction of a new adjacent structure. The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to move equipment. Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is November 2012.
 
CLAY COUNTY, SR-52 bridge construction over New Hope Branch beginning east of New Hope Branch (LM 15.75) to the Cumberland River (LM 17.49), including grading drainage and paving: The contractor is constructing new bridge and performing grading operations. There are no lane closures scheduled at this time. The contractor is using a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project. Estimated project completion date is July 2011. 
 
CLAY / OVERTON COUNTY, SR-52 grading, drainage, paving, and construction of five bridges and retaining wall from existing SR-52 (LM 24.66) to 0.4 mile east of Overton County Line (LM 0.4): The contractor is currently constructing the bridge at Wet Mill Creek and performing grading operations. There are no lane closures scheduled at this time. The contractor is using a flagging operation in order to navigate construction equipment through the project as needed. Estimated project completion date is November 2012. 
 
CLAY COUNTY, SR-52 grading, drainage, and paving from west of existing SR-53 to existing SR-52: Construction signs are posted on SR-52 and James White Road. The contractor is currently performing grading and blasting operations east of James White Road and they have begun clearing and grading operations east of SR-53. Haul trucks and equipment will be entering and exiting SR-53 at SR-52 and the entrance to the Cumberland River Hospital. The contractor is using a flagging operation in order to navigate construction equipment through the project as needed. Estimated project completion date is September 2014.  
 
COFFEE COUNTY, U.S. 41 (SR-2) construction of a welded steel girder bridge over the Duck River (LM 12.72) including grading, drainage, and paving: (Recovery Act Project) The contractor is currently clearing, relocating utilities and constructing the first phase of the bridge. The contractor is using a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project. Estimated project completion date is July 2011. 
 
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, SR-101 (Lantana Rd.) widening project, including grading, drainage, installation of signals and paving from SR-282 (Dunbar Rd.) to SR-392 (Miller Ave.): (Recovery Act Project) The contractor will be performing grading activities, paving and utility relocation. SR-419 (Pigeon Ridge Road) traffic has been shifted at the intersection of SR-101 to allow continuation of grade work. The right turn lane from North Lantana Road to South Miller Avenue has been reopened. West Adams Street is open to traffic. There may be short lane closures and temporary lane stoppages on SR-282, SR-101 and SR-392 for utility relocation, paving and grading activities. Estimated project completion date is October 2011. 
 
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, SR-28 (U.S. 127) Resurfacing from the Bledsoe County Line (LM 0.00) to North of Hillendale Road (LM 5.11): The contractor will be installing delineators and permanent signs. Estimated project completion date is July 2011. 
 
DEKALB COUNTY, SR-56 bridge rehabilitation project (Hurricane Bridge) over Caney Fork River (LM 15.40): The bridge currently is down to only one lane of traffic, and it is being maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public. The current weight postings of 10 tons for two-axle vehicles and 18 tons for vehicles with three or more axles will remain in effect and will be strictly enforced. This will allow for work adjacent to the north side of the bridge to begin in earnest. Further temporary lane shifts may be implemented by flaggers on an “as needed” basis to facilitate work as it progresses. Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 
 
FENTRESS COUNTY, SR-52 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge over the East Fork of the Obey River (LM 5.23), including grading, drainage and paving: The contractor is constructing a new bridge and performing grading operations. There are no lane closures on this project at this time. Estimated completion date is September 2011. 
 
GRUNDY COUNTY, SR-56, construction of a precast structure over Firescald Creek (LM 21.30), including grading, drainage, and paving: (Recovery Act Project) The contractor is currently performing bridge work on the project. There are no lane closures scheduled at this time. Estimated project completion date is September 2011. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, I-24 resurfacing beginning west of Chattanooga Creek (LM 6.18 / MM 177) to near Crest Rd. (LM 11.35 / MM 183), including bridge deck repair:  The contractor continues a resurfacing project on I-24 between mile markers 177 - 183 in and around downtown Chattanooga. The project includes partial and full depth concrete repairs to the roadway, as well as bridge deck repairs.  Most of the work is scheduled to take place at night between the hours of 7PM-6AM Sundays through Thursdays. However, there are at least 8 weekends where the contractor will be allowed to have lane closures beginning at 7PM Friday night to 6AM Monday morning. It is planned that 2 lanes of traffic will be maintained during construction except between the hours of 10PM-5AM when traffic could be restricted to a single lane. THP will assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is August 2011.

Thursday, July 14, 2011 eastbound and westbound LM 8.3/MM 179.3 (Market Street) to LM 10.4/MM 181.4 (Dodds Ave.) from 7PM-6AM. The contractor will have either one lane or two lanes closed (only 10PM-5AM) for milling and paving work. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.
Friday, July 15 at 7PM through Monday July 18 at 6AM eastbound (LM 11.1/MM 182.1). The contractor will shift traffic and close one lane to perform bridge deck repairs and paving on the inside lanes of the bridge on Missionary Ridge on I-24 East. At least two lanes of traffic will be maintained throughout the weekend.
Monday, July 18 through Wednesday, July 20, 2011 eastbound and westbound LM 8.3/MM 179.3 (Market Street) to LM 10.4/MM 181.4 (Dodds Ave.) from 7PM-6AM. The contractor will have either one lane or two lanes closed (only 10PM-5AM) for milling and paving work. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.
 
Hamilton County, U.S. 127 (SR-8) resurfacing beginning south of Glendale Drive (LM 14.03) to Miles Road (LM 18.87): The paving work is completed on this project. The contractor will install rumble strips and pavement marking during this time period, with the exception of Sunday. All work is weather permitting. This work should not interfere with traffic. Estimated project completion date is August 2011. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, SR-60 construction of concrete slab bridge over branch (LM 0.44): (This project is near the Meigs County Line.) The contractor will be performing work throughout the project area between 7AM-6PM Monday through Saturday. Flaggers will assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is September 2011.  
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, design-build project from I-75 Enterprise South interchange to SR-317 (Apison Pike) at Old Lee Hwy.: The contractor is performing grading operations and constructing the new bridge to connect the interchange at Exit 9 to SR-317 at Old Lee Hwy. Estimated completion date is January 2012. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, College Drive East widening project from west of Sunkist Terrace to SR-317 (Apison Pike): The contractor will be working on College Drive East throughout the project area placing barrier rail and installing erosion control items between 7AM- 6PM Monday through Saturday.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is July 2011. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, construction of concrete bulb-tee beam bridge on U.S. 11 (SR-2, Cummings Hwy.) over Lookout Creek (LM 3.64) including grading, drainage and paving: The contractor will be implementing temporary lane closures or shifts between 9AM-3PM Monday through Saturday in the work zone for utility relocations and bridge construction.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is July 2011. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, Shallowford Road construction of concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge over South Chickamauga Creek (LM 4.01), including grading drainage, and paving: The contractor is constructing the new bridge and performing grading operationsThere will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project. The existing bridge will remain open until construction of a new adjacent structure. The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to perform bridge work during non-peak hours. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is June 2012. 
 
HAMILTON COUNTY, the construction of a concrete box beam bridge on U.S. 11 (SR-2, Lee Highway) over the CSX Railroad (LM 16.25), including grading, drainage and paving: The contractor is performing erosion control measurements and grading operations to prepare for construction of the new bridge. There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project. The existing bridge will remain open until construction of a new adjacent structure is complete.  During this report period, there will be an outside lane closure on Lee Hwy. Monday through Friday from 6 PM to 6 AM each night to allow the contractor to build up the shoulders and set barrier rail.  The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to perform bridge work during non-peak hours. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is June 2012. 
 
Jackson County, SR-135 Construction of a Concrete Box Bridge over Keeling Branch (LM 17.62), including grading, drainage, and paving: The contractor will have will have temporary lane closures and may pace traffic at various times on weekdays from 6AM to 6PM. One lane of traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
MARION COUNTY, I-24 at Exit 152 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge on U.S. 72 (SR-27) including grading, drainage, and paving: The contractor continues work on the bridge. Any interstate lane closures on I-24 will be at nighttime between 6PM-6AM. Flaggers and THP will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is September 2012. 
 
MCMINN COUNTY, SR-30 widening project, including grading, drainage, construction of a concrete box beam bridge and a retaining wall, including signal installation, from Athens City Limits to east of County Road 609: Speed limit reduction signs from 45 MPH to 35 MPH continue to be posted throughout the detour. There will be temporary lane closures during the blasting and logging operations.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is May 2012. 
 
MEIGS COUNTY, SR-30 relocation beginning east of the Tennessee River to west of SR-58: Work has begun on this project. Traffic will not be affected at this time.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is October 2013. 
 
MEIGS COUNTY, SR-58 Microsurfacing from the Hiwassee River Bridge (LM 5.77) to SR-30 in Decatur (LM 17.64): Construction signs have been installed. The contractor will be installing delineators and applying permanent pavement marking.  Estimated project completion date is July 2011. 
 
OVERTON COUNTY, SR-84 construction of two concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, including grading, drainage and paving beginning near existing SR-85 (Windle Road) to SR-84: The operation to construct a new bridge is currently underway. The contractor periodically will have traffic down to one lane. One of the main line traffic lanes will be closed by the use of barrels during this time.  A flagging operation is being used to navigate traffic through the project. Estimated completion date is September 2013. 
 
POLK COUNTY, U.S. 411 (SR-33) grading, drainage, construction of three bridges, and paving beginning 0.23 miles south of Lowery Road and extending to 0.32 miles south of Welcome Valley Road: The contractor is currently excavating, installing drainage structures, and constructing the bridge over the Ocoee River. Estimated project completion date is October 2011. 
 
POLK COUNTY, U.S. 411 (SR-33) grading, drainage, construction of three concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, and paving beginning at the Benton City Limits and extending to SR-30: (Recovery Act Project) The contractor is currently relocating utilities, grading, and installing structures. The contractor is using a flagging operation to navigate construction equipment through the project. Estimated project completion date is September 2011. 
 
POLK COUNTY, U.S. 64 (SR-40) bridge rehabilitation of bridge over Brush Creek (LM 23.04): Traffic signals have been installed at each end of the bridge to regulate the flow of traffic through the area. A one-lane traffic operation is currently in effect. This one-lane traffic operation will remain in place while the repairs to the bridge are being completed. Delays are possible and wide loads cannot pass across the Brush Creek Bridge. Estimated project completion date is November 2011. 
 
RHEA COUNTY, SR-29 Entrance to Bryan College Entrance (Landes Way): Construction signs are installed. The contractor will be constructing turn lanes and a crossover with daytime lanes closures on SR-29. In addition, work will begin on the footers for the traffic signals. Estimated project completion date is August 2011. 
 
RHEA COUNTY, SR-29 Widening Project from SR-68 Junction to Spring City North City Limits: The speed limit throughout the project is posted at 40 MPH. There may be flagging, short lane closures or temporary lane stoppages due punchlist work along SR-29. Estimated project completion date is July 2011. 
 
RHEA COUNTY, SR-29 (U.S. 27) Rehabilitation of bridge over Richland Creek (LM 5.58): Construction signs are installed. Traffic has been switched from the northbound bridge to the southbound bridge. Four lanes of traffic have been merged into two lanes and diverted across the southbound bridge as the northbound bridge is repaired. Estimated project completion date is September 2011. 
 
VAN BUREN COUNTY, SR-111 interchange construction project at SR-284 junction, including grading, drainage and construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge: The contractor is currently clearing, grading and constructing the bridge. Estimated project completion date is October 2011. 
 
WARREN COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) relocation of roadway from Centertown to Spring Valley Road including construction of two concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, grading, drainage, and some paving: (Recovery Act Project)  Grading operation on this project is active. Crisp Springs Road is closed with signed detour. All motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles on the project. Flaggers may be present on side roads. Estimated project completion date is August 2011. 
 
WARREN COUNTY, SR-56 bridge replacement project (Beersheba St. Bridge) for construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over the Barren Fork River (LM 11.77) including grading, drainage and paving:There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project. The existing bridge will remain open until construction of a new adjacent structure. The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to move equipment. Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is September 2011. 
 
WARREN COUNTY, SR-286 bridge replacement project for construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Big Hickory Creek (LM 0.59) including grading, drainage and paving:(Recovery Act Project) There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project. The existing bridge will remain open until construction of a new adjacent structure. The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to move equipment. Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is July 2012. 
 
WHITE COUNTY, SR-111 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge, including grading, drainage and paving at SR-135 junction:  The contractor may implement temporary lane closures on weekdays and pace traffic at various times during the hours of 6AM-6PM depending on the scope of work on SR-111 North and South between log mile 11 and 13. Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control. Estimated completion date is September 2011.
