Bridge Project Will Require Intermittent Closures to Shelby Farms Greenline

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Beginning the morning of July 18, 2011 construction will begin to replace an 83 year old bridge on Holmes Street in Shelby County. The $1.6 million project is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is estimated to be complete in the Spring of 2013. The project will require temporary and intermittent closures to the Shelby Farms Greenline Trail. A portion of Holmes Street will also be closed for the duration of the project.

The Shelby Farms Greenline Trail is seven miles and extends from Shelby Farms to the mid-town area. The Holmes Street Bridge crosses over the trail between North Highland Street and Tillman Street. The periodic closures to the trail are necessary to ensure the safety of the pedestrians and bicyclists who travel this path, as well as the workers on the project. The intermittent closures to the Greenline Trail will be kept to a minimum.

Detour route information for the Greenline Trail and for Holmes Street is attached to this release.
