Loudon County Project Bid Letting Postponed
Redesign necessary to comply with Coast Guard regulations

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – On Thursday, the Tennessee Department of Transportation announced that the bid letting for a future construction project on State Route 73 in Loudon County has been postponed.
The project was originally scheduled to be included in the October letting.
The letting has been postponed so that the main channel structure can be redesigned to accommodate recent changes to the Coast Guard navigational channel requirements for this site.
This project will widen State Route 73 to four lanes and is more than 1½ miles in length. A new bridge will be constructed over the Tennessee River downstream from the Fort Loudoun Dam. The existing bridge on top of the dam will be removed.
Also, a new bridge will be constructed over the Fort Loudoun/Tellico Canal, parallel to the existing State Route 73 bridge over the canal.
