Bridge over Tennessee River at Nickajack Closed for Geotechnical Drilling

Chattanooga, Tenn. – Beginning Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. CDT, TDOT will close the truss bridge on U.S. Hwy. 41 over the Tennessee River at Nickajack Lake in Marion County so geotechnical engineers can safely conduct drilling and testing in the river below. The testing is expected to take several days, and the bridge will be closed to traffic until testing is complete. Detours will be posted.

The geotechnical work is in conjunction with the current project underway on the new multi-span steel plate girder bridge that will eventually replace the truss bridge. The prime contractor for the $21.5 million project is Britton Bridge, LLC of Mt. Juliet, TN. The project is slated for completion by August 31, 2013.
