TDOT to Demolish Bridge over Red River in Clarksville

Nashville, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation crews will demolish the remaining cantilever bridge over the Red River on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard (U.S. 79/State Route 13) in Clarksville on Tuesday, August 23, 2011. A new bridge is under construction, and is already carrying vehicle traffic over the river.
Explosives will be detonated at approximately 10:00 p.m. in order to bring down the structure. The remains of the bridge will fall into the Red River, and will be removed. Traffic on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard will be stopped for approximately five minutes as the blast takes place.
The bridge demolition will be weather dependent.

- Interested media should stage in the southbound lanes of Wilma Rudolph Boulevard approximately 100 yards from the bridge, or as directed by TDOT and Contractor Personnel on scene.
