$250,000 Presented in Support of Mentoring Program for Children of Prisoners

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Correction is awarding Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies that comprise the Big Brothers Big Sisters Tennessee Amachi Initiative $250,000 to serve children in Tennessee through the Big Brothers Big Sisters Tennessee Amachi Initiative.

It is estimated that without intervention, children of incarcerated parents are 70% more likely to end up in prison themselves.  Mentoring programs such as Big Brothers Big Sisters help vulnerable children beat the odds, changing their perspectives for the better.

Tennessee Department of Correction Commissioner Derrick D. Schofield will present the $250,000 check to Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies for the Tennessee Amachi Initiative at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Members of the media are invited to attend.
