Meeting to Examine Tennessee’s Proposed Nominations to National Register of Historic Places -- Sept. 21

Public invited to attend Nashville meeting on Sept. 21
 
NASHVILLE - The State Review Board will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, to examine Tennessee's proposed nominations to the National Register of Historic Places.
 
The meeting will be held at the Tennessee Historical Commission offices, located at 2941 Lebanon Road in Nashville. It will begin at 9 a.m. 
 
The Board will vote on seven nominations from across the state. Nominations that meet the criteria will be sent for final approval to the National Register of Historic Places in the U. S. Department of the Interior. The nominations are:
  • Anderson County: Fort Anderson on Militia Hill 
  • Carroll County:  Court Theatre 
  • Davidson County: Park-Elkins Historic District 
  • Lincoln County: Whitaker-Motlow House 
  • Loudon County: War Memorial Building 
  • Sullivan County:  Piney Flats Historic District
  • Washington County: Johnson City Country Club
Other business at the meeting will include a progress report on various federal programs, along with the review and re-assessment of the Lamb-Stephens House and the John Russworm House in Williamson County for potential removal from the National Register.
 
The State Review Board is composed of 13 people with backgrounds in American history, architecture, archaeology or related fields. It also includes members representing the public. The National Register program was authorized under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.
