Velsicol Chemical Health Assessment Process Discussed at Public Meeting

NASHVILLE – Representatives of the Tennessee Department of Health’s Environmental Epidemiology Program will hold a public meeting on Thursday, September 15, 2011, in Chattanooga to discuss and explain the public health assessment process to members of the community.

Under a cooperative agreement with the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, TDOH is writing a public health assessment for the proposed cleanup plan for Velsicol Chemical Corporation’s 4902 Central Avenue location. Based on the assessment completed by TDOH, ATSDR will determine if the cleanup plan is sufficient to protect public health.

The full public health assessment will include a summary, discussion, conclusions and recommendations. TDOH will actively seek feedback and public comments from members of the community to complete the assessment.
