Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Named MADD Walk Chairman

NASHVILLE--- The Tennessee chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has named Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Tracy Trott as chairman of the 2012 Nashville Walk Like MADD event to promote awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence.
 
Since being appointed Colonel in 2010, Trott has made DUI enforcement a key priority for the THP. "I believe that DUI enforcement is the most important duty of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.  Our dedication to DUI enforcement is saving lives and making Tennessee roads much safer for all of our families," Trott said.
 
As of August 31, state troopers had made 3,407 arrests this year for DUI. That is an increase of 38.95 percent over the same time period in 2010, when troopers had made 2,452 arrests for DUI. As of August 31, there had been 614 traffic fatalities this year on Tennessee roadways. That is a decrease of 13.8 percent compared to the same time period in 2010, when there had been 699 fatalities.
 
The 2012 Nashville Walk Like MADD event is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 in Bicentennial Mall Park in downtown Nashville.
