TDOT and Metro Nashville Public Works Announce Partnership on Battery Lane Bridge Project

Nashville, Tenn. –The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) in partnership with Metro Nashville Public Works will soon begin the first phase of construction to replace the Battery Lane Bridge over the West Fork Brown’s Creek. TDOT will manage the construction of this $618,071 project for Metro Nashville.
The project will widen the Battery Lane Bridge to meet current road design standards. The new bridge will have a concrete span with a total width of 42 feet, including two 12 foot lanes with eight foot shoulders. The proposed bridge length is approximately 40 feet. In 2011, the Average Daily Traffic total on Battery Lane was 14,899 vehicles per day. The existing bridge was constructed in 1956.
Phase I of the project will include the relocation of utility lines. The work will require both eastbound and westbound lanes of Battery Lane between Lealand Lane and Granny White Pike be closed for five days beginning on Monday, July 23rd through Friday, July 27th. Detours will be in place.
The bridge replacement project will not begin until mid-2013 and will require the total closure of a section of Battery Lane. This closure will not begin until the end of the 2012-2013 school year in order to reduce the impacts to motorists in the area. Battery Lane is expected to reopen by August 2013.

- Fall 2012 – Relocation of utility lines under bridge (no impacts to traffic)
- Summer 2013 – bridge replacement, detours required
