NASHVILLE – The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation (GBBF), the non-profit organization supporting the ongoing, statewide operation of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, has named Dean Dorsey Hoskins as its new vice president.

In her capacity as vice president, Hoskins will wear a number of hats at the GBBF, from overseeing strategic planning and the foundation’s financial management to assisting the president in fundraising and county program support. Having spent much of the past decade as a motivational speaker and consultant to non-profits and financial services firms on matters of operations and internal communications, Hoskins also has over 15 years of experience as an entrepreneur. In 1998 she purchased a fabric and sewing shop in Green Hills while simultaneously launching a wholesale fabric import company.

“Dean joins us as a highly respected professional,” said Theresa Carl, GBBF president. “While working with her in various volunteer roles, I observed the way she approaches challenges and opportunities with a keen eye for detail and a compassionate spirit. We will all benefit from her skills and talents.”

Originally from Macon, Georgia, Hoskins graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia with a B.B.A. in risk management and insurance. She began her career in the insurance industry, working as a reinsurance intermediary in Atlanta for G.L. Hodson & Sons, Inc. before moving to Nashville in 1987 to assume the role of assistant vice president with the Permanent General Companies, a subsidiary of Ingram Industries, Inc.

“I am both excited and honored to be part of an organization committed to changing the lives of Tennessee’s children through books,” said Hoskins. “As a child I learned to love and appreciate reading as a gateway to the wider world, and I applied this principle in raising my own daughters. The Imagination Library program is a gift to all Tennessee children and their families, and I look forward to working for its continued success.”
