I-40 in Madison County Reduced to One Lane Eastbound for Bridge Repair: One lane of traffic open between Mile Marker 78 and 80

Jackson, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) contract crews will close one lane on Interstate 40 East between mile marker 78 and 80 beginning Friday August 17, 2012 as a bridge repair project gets underway.

 The lane closures are as follows:

  •  Friday, August 17 through Monday August 20, from 8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. (EACH NIGHT) – One lane of I-40 eastbound will be closed for shoulder work. One lane will remain open.

 The following weekend, closures will be westbound:

  •  Friday, August 24 through Monday August 27, from 8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. (EACH NIGHT) – One lane of I-40 westbound will be closed for shoulder work. One lane will remain open.

The lane closures are part of a project to repair the bridge railings and bridge joints on the I-40 Bridge over the West Tennessee Railroad.  The project is expected to be complete by June 30, 2013.

Tennessee Highway Patrol will be on site in the work zone to provide traffic control as the work is being completed. TDOT also asks drivers to use caution, reduce their speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in work zones across the state.
