Taxpayers Provided Other Sources for Vehicle Assistance

Nashville - The Tennessee Department of Revenue announces that the Department's Vehicle Services Division, located at 44 Vantage Way, in Nashville, will no longer provide walk-in services to taxpayers and local businesses.  Each of Tennessee's 95 county clerks already offer walk-in services on title and registration matters.

Beginning September 1, 2012, the Department of Revenue's Vehicle Services Division will provide taxpayer assistance by US mail, electronic mail and by phone. The Department's title and registration call center will continue to offer assistance daily at 615-741-3101 or toll-free in Tennessee at 888-871-3171.  Electronic mail may be sent to email.T&R@tn.gov.

“Operating our department efficiently and effectively is what Tennessee’s taxpayers expect,” said Richard H. Roberts, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Revenue.  "We have been proud to offer walk-in service at the Vantage Way location over the years, but feel we can better serve the public by allowing our county clerks to continue to provide excellent in-person service while allowing our staff to focus its attention on more complex title and registration responsibilities."

The Department of Revenue is responsible for the administration of state tax and motor vehicle title and registration laws established by the legislature, and the collection of taxes and fees associated with those laws. The Department of Revenue collects approximately 91 percent of total state tax revenue. In collecting taxes and registering motor vehicles, the department enforces the revenue laws fairly and impartially in an effort to encourage voluntary taxpayer compliance.
