NASHVILLE --- The winner for the first permit to participate in the inaugural Tennessee Young Sportsman Elk Hunt will be announced during the Second Annual Bass Pro Shops Land & Wildlife Expo on Saturday (Aug. 11) at the Gaylord Opryland and Convention Center.

The announcement will come at 2 p.m. at the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA), young sportsman’s booth, also known as the Rack Pack booth. During the announcement proceedings, there will be brief comments from representatives of the QDMA and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Daryl Ratajczak, Chief of TWRA’s Forestry and Wildlife Division, will make a presentation on the status of Tennessee’s elk herd and hunt information.

The state’s fourth regular sanctioned elk hunt will be held Oct. 15-19. Last spring, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission voted to establish a young sportsman elk hunt following the conclusion of the regular elk hunt, which will be held Oct. 20-21 with one young sportsman to be selected. Both hunts will be held at the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area, north of Knoxville.

The Land & Wildlife Expo indoor and outdoor display and demonstration areas will be open Aug. 10-11.
