Sevier County Health Department Welcomes Patients to New Clinic

SEVIERVILLE – Tennessee Department of Health Chief Medical Officer David Reagan, MD, PhD, today joined other local and state officials for an open house celebration at the new Sevier County Health Department facility in Sevierville. The new location provides an expanded and welcoming clinic space for health department clients.

“This new clinic location provides more than double the space of our former Sevier County Health Department facility, which will allow us to better serve families in this community,” Reagan said. “We are pleased that our collaboration with local and federal partners is working to help connect our patients with needed health resources.”

The Sevier County Health Department has served more than 23,580 unique patients in the past year. The new health department clinic in Sevier County is a 29,614 square foot facility which provides 21 examination rooms, a mothers’ room for breastfeeding, a state-of-the-art classroom and a demonstration kitchen. The former facility was 12,000 square feet.

The clinic relocation is the result of collaboration among federal, state, county and local government agencies. In June 2011, the Sevier County government took possession of the former Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center and began planning for renovation of the facility to house the Sevier County Health Department, a satellite campus of East Tennessee State University and a Veterans Administration medical facility. The renovation for the Sevier County Health Department portion alone was a $3 million project. Sevier County received $399,690 in federal special needs funding for the Women, Infants and Children program area of the clinic.

The Sevier County Health Department at 709 Middle Creek Road in Sevierville provides an array of services including immunizations, well child visits and health screenings, WIC and nutrition services, breast and cervical cancer screening, birth and death certificates, children’s special services, HIV testing and counseling, sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment and communicable disease control. Many services are provided on a sliding fee scale based on income. Hours for the clinic are 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
