Inmate Back In Custody

ROAN MOUNTAIN, TN – An inmate who walked away from a minimum-custody work crew on Tuesday has been captured. Grady Edwards, 36, was being housed at the Northeast Correctional Complex-Annex when he left a work detail in Carter County. The Department of Correction’s Office of Investigations and Compliance tracked Edwards to a location in Wilmington, North Carolina and apprehended him with assistance from the Wilmington, North Carolina Police Department and the Green County Sheriff’s Department. Edwards’ wife Julia Edwards and her son Kevin Roberson were also taken into custody charged with being accomplices in the escape. Edwards was located at a shopping mall and was taken to the local jail pending extradition back to Tennessee where he will face escape charges. Edwards was serving a six-year sentence for theft and burglary. He would have been eligible for parole in 2013 but could now face up to six additional years for escape.
