Weekly Construction Report for Parts of East and Middle Tennessee for October 24 - October 30, 2013

BRADLEY COUNTY, I-75 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee Beam Bridge, including grading, drainage and paving at the Exit 20 interchange (U.S. 64 Bypass East, U.S. 74 East, SR-311, APD-40) (LM 4.86) in Cleveland:  Work continues on this project.  The contractor will be working on clearing and drainage during this report period.  Traffic on APD-40 heading south toward I-75 will be down to one lane at the beginning of the Exit 20 project continuing through the end of the project.  The designated right turn lane on APD-40 will be closed to allow the contractor to begin widening the roadway.  Signs will be posted and flaggers will assist with traffic control if needed.  Additionally, the I-75 northbound on-ramp will be reduced to a 16-foot lane.  Any work requiring interstate lane closures is limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 7PM - 6AM.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary during interstate lane closures.  Estimated project completion date is November 2015.

BRADLEY COUNTY, Benton Pike, Durkee Road ,and Michigan Avenue, grading, drainage, and paving on a State Industrial Access route serving the Whirlpool Corporation:  The contractor continues work on this project at the Whirlpool Corporation plant.  There will be intermittent lane shifts.  Traffic will be down to one lane on Benton Pike as the contractor is laying storm drain pipe across the road at several locations. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is July 2014. 

BRADLEY and POLK COUNTIES, SR-74 (GA225/Spring Place Road) between the Tennessee/Georgia State Line and SR-313 (Ladd Springs Road) construction of two concrete box bridges over the Conasauga River Overflow (LM 0.01) and the Conasauga River (LM 0.14) including grading, drainage and paving:  This project is complete pending final inspection and the bridges are now open to traffic.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 

BRADLEY COUNTY, The resurfacing (thin mix overlay) on U.S. 64 (S.R. 60) beginning at SR-311 (L.M. 10.97) and extending to Spring Creek Drive  (L.M. 14.67) in Cleveland:  Work continues on this project.  The contractor will be milling and paving during this report period.  There will be temporary lane closures as required on this project.  One lane in each direction will remain open at all times. Please be aware of ramp closures during construction at night. Please be aware of flaggers and traffic control devices.  Estimated project completion date is November 2013.

CANNON / WARREN COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) grading, drainage, and construction of a concrete I beam bridge from near SR-281 in Cannon County to near SR-287 in Warren County:  Work continues on this project.  All motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles on the project.  Flaggers may be present on side roads.  Estimated project completion date is December 2013. 

CANNON / WARREN COUNTY, U.S. 70S (SR-1) paving from near SR-281 in Cannon County to Spring Valley Road in McMinnville, Warren County:  Work continues on this project.  All motorists should use caution and be alert to construction equipment and vehicles on the project.  Flaggers may be present on side roads.  No interruption of traffic is expected.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014. 

CLAY COUNTY, SR-52 grading, drainage, and paving from west of existing SR-53 to existing SR-52:  Traffic on SR-52 has been placed on the new alignment through project CNH199 at the Overton county line.  The Overton County project ties to this project on the east end of this project.  Traffic will continue through this project on the new alignment to existing SR- 53.  Traffic will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes just east of James White road.  The speed limit will be reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph throughout this detour.  Construction signs will be posted throughout the detour.  Existing SR- 52 will be for local traffic only from SR 53 to east of James White Rd.  There will be no through traffic on old SR- 52.  Road closures and construction signs will be installed.  Construction signs are posted on SR-52, SR-53 and James White Road.  The contractor is currently performing grading and blasting operations north of existing SR-52 to South of SR 53.  Traffic has been relocated onto new alignment of Pinkley Ave. at the entrance to the Cumberland River Hospital.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014. 

COFFEE COUNTY, I-24 grading, drainage and paving at the eastbound and westbound weigh stations from MM 117-115.5:  The contractor will have lane closures on I-24 East and West between the hours of 6PM-6AM to build up the inside shoulder to full-depth paving in preparation for installation of barrier rail.  At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times during this work.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Following barrier rail installation, shoulder closures will go into effect in this area.  Estimated project completion date is November 2014. 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, SR-462 new construction from U.S. 70 (SR-1) to U.S. 70N (SR-1), including grading, drainage and paving:  Work continues on this project.  Currently there are no lane closures that will result from this project.  Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles and equipment that may be entering or leaving the jobsite.  Estimated project completion date is June 2014. 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, U.S. 127 (SR-28) bridge repair over Obed River (LM 17.50):  Construction signs, portable barrier rail, arrowboards and barrels have been installed to reduce traffic from two lanes to one lane on both the northbound and southbound bridges.  Estimated project completion date is November 2014. 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, SR-1 (U.S. 70) resurfacing from Deep Water Road (LM 5.27) to Pomona Road (LM 8.86):  Construction signs have been installed.  The contractor will be installing delineators and placing shoulder stone as needed.  Traffic will be maintained by use of flaggers and construction signs.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 

CUMBERLAND (SR-28 and Taylors Chapel Road), FENTRESS (SR-28), and RHEA COUNTIES (SR-68) Safety Project:  Construction activities will consist of new sign installation, pavement markings and guardrail installation.  Temporary lane closures with flagging will be required.  Estimated project completion date is November 2013. 

DEKALB COUNTY, SR-56 bridge rehabilitation project (Hurricane Bridge) over Caney Fork River (LM 15.40):  The bridge has reopened to two lanes of traffic with no weight restrictions.  Although the bridge has reopened, the contractor has some additional work remaining to do before the project is totally complete, so contract crews will be in the area until all the work is done.  There may be some temporary shoulder closures at times, as the contractor completes some work under the bridge.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 

DEKALB COUNTY, SR-26 (U.S. 70) construction of a welded steel plate girder bridge and three retaining walls over the Caney Fork River and Sligo Road (LM 24.58):  This bridge replacement project is underway.  During construction, the current bridge over the river will remain open to traffic until the new structure is constructed and able to carry traffic.  The contractor may have short lane closures to perform various operations on an as-needed basis.  Flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is June 2016. 

FENTRESS COUNTY, U.S. 127 (SR-28) bridge repair over Wolf River (LM 7.56):  Work continues on this project.  Temporary traffic signals have been activated, and the bridge is down to one lane and controlled by the signals for the duration of the project.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November 2013. 

FENTRESS COUNTY, U.S. 127 (SR-28) resurfacing (thin mix overlay) from south of Hoodtown Rd. (LM 10.34) to south of Airport Rd. (LM 13.41)bridge repair over Wolf River (LM 7.56):  Paving operations have begun on this project.  Flaggers will be used to navigate traffic through the project.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013.

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 41 (SR-8, Ringgold Rd.) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of I 75 South off-ramp (LM 1.07) at Exit 1:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be working on Exit 1 on I-75 South at East Ridge performing temporary lane shifts and lane reduction operations during this report period.  Work will take place between the hours of 7AM and 6PM on Mondays through Saturdays.  Unless a major backup occurs, traffic on I-75 should not be affected.  In the future this job could require a temporary lane/shoulder closure on I-75 South.  THP and flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights from 7PM to 6AM to perform road work.  On Thursday, October 24 the contractor will implement a closure of Signal Mtn. Rd. under the bridge between the ramps to clean bridge beams for the U.S. 27 North exit ramp bridge over Signal Mtn. Rd. from 7PM-6AM.  Also on Wednesday, October 30 and Thursday, October 31, the contractor will close Manning Street under U.S. 27 from 7AM-7PM for bridge demolition.  Should weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent this work from taking place, it will be rescheduled for the next available night.  During this report period, the contractor will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is February 2015. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving:  Work continues on this project.  Traffic has been switched to the new pavement on the north side of the roadway to will allow the contractor access to work on the south side of the roadway.  Drivers are urged to be alert to the new pattern and obey all traffic signs.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November 2013. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 27 (Rossville Blvd.) resurfacing from Foust Street (LM 5.62) to the Georgia State Line (LM 7.93):  Work on this project continues.  During this project, lane closures for asphalt paving will only be allowed on Sunday through Thursday nights between the hours of 7PM-6AM.  Concrete replacement work will only be allowed on weekends from 9PM on Friday through 6AM on Monday.  THP will be present to assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November 2013. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, construction of a State Industrial Access route serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor is in the process of clearing and taking care of environmental measures in order to start on road and drainage.  Traffic will not be impacted at this time therefore, no lane closures are needed.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, SR-58 resurfacing from north of Eller Road (LM 6.43) to Lakewood Acres Drive (LM 9.20):  Work on project has begun.  The contractor will be paving during this report period.  There will be temporary lane closures as required on this project.  One lane in each direction will remain open at all times.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated completion time is November 2013. 

HAMILTON and BRADLEY COUNTIES, I-75 from MM 13.9 to MM 25.3 expansion of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Traffic System:  Work on this project continues.  There will be daytime shoulder closures throughout the project area as the contractor performs work for future traffic cameras and dynamic message signs.  Estimated completion date is May 2014. 

JACKSON COUNTY, SR-262 bridge repair over Cumberland River (LM 7.56):  Work continues on this project.  Temporary traffic signals have been activated, and the bridge is down to one lane and controlled by the signals for the duration of the project.  During this report period, the contractor will close the bridge for short durations while pouring concrete from 7AM – 5PM.  Motorists should expect delays.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is May 2014. 

MARION COUNTY, U.S. 41 (U.S. 64, U.S. 72, SR-2) replacement of the truss bridge over the Tennessee River at Nickajack Lake (LM 21.14) with a multi-span steel plate girder bridge:  The truss bridge is now closed to all through traffic until the new adjacent bridge currently under construction is completed.  A detour route that adds an additional 1.5 miles to the current route is posted.  Estimated project completion date is February 2014. 

MCMINN COUNTY, SR-30 widening project, including grading, drainage, paving, construction of a concrete box beam bridge and retaining wall from County Road 609 to the 4-lane section in Etowah:  The contractor is moving dirt in this phase of the project.  County Road 607 is currently closed, and a marked detour is in place.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  The contractor is installing a detour, and there will be lane shifts on this project.  Estimated project completion is November 2014. 

MCMINN COUNTY, Riceville-Decatur Road miscellaneous safety improvements from SR-30 (LM 0.00) to I-75 (LM 8.60); resurfacing (either microsurface or thin mix alternate) from Darrel Davis Road (LM 1.116) to I-75 (LM 8.600):  There will be lane closures while paving is taking place on County Road 100.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is October 2013. 

MEIGS COUNTY, SR-30 relocation beginning east of the Tennessee River to west of SR-58:  Work continues on this project.  Traffic will not be affected at this time.   Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion is October 2013. 

MEIGS COUNTY, SR-58 resurfacing from south of Ratledge Road and Heird Road (LM 22.40) to north of SR-68 (LM 26.92):  Construction signs have been installed.  Contractor will be applying pavement markings and installing delineators.  Traffic will be maintained by use of flaggers and construction signs.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 

RHEA and MEIGS COUNTIES, SR-30 bridge repair over Tennessee River (LM 17.26):  Work is substantially complete on this project, and all lanes on the bridge are open to traffic.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 

RHEA COUNTY, SR-30 resurfacing from Bledsoe County (LM 0.00) to Morgan Creek Road (LM 4.46):  Construction signs have been installed.  The contractor will be installing delineators.  Estimated project completion date is October 2013. 

WARREN COUNTY, SR56; repair of bridge over Mountain Creek (LM 22.47):  The bridge currently is down to only one lane of traffic, and it is being maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public.  Motorists should expect delays up to 6 minutes.  Project completion date is May 2014.
