Section of I-40 West in Nashville Closed This Weekend for Bridge Repairs

I-40 West and Charlotte Avenue Closed Downtown

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close all lanes on Interstate 40 West and Charlotte Avenue in downtown Nashville this weekend in order to perform repairs to the I-40 bridge crossing over Charlotte Avenue at mile marker 209, which is located between the Church Street and Jefferson Street exits.  I-40 West at mile marker 209 will be completely closed from Friday, November 1st at 8:00 p.m. until Monday, November 4th at 5:00 a.m.  In addition, both directions of Charlotte Avenue under I-40 will be closed.  The entrance ramps to I-40 westbound will also be closed at Broadway Avenue and Church Street.  Drivers will be able to enter I-40 westbound at Charlotte Avenue.

This $399,060 repair project will replace a 200 foot long section of the concrete bridge deck.  A total weekend closure is required to remove and replace the old concrete.  Contract crews with Jamison Construction, LLC will first mill the roadway, then jackhammer and remove the old concrete.   Crews will then install metal decking, pour concrete and stripe the roadway before reopening it to traffic.  An estimated $40 million project to completely rehabilitate the I-40/Charlotte Avenue Bridge and three others is tentatively planned for 2015.

The following detours will be in place:
