Rockslide Closes State Route 25 in Smith County

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is continuing to monitor a rockslide that has shut down both northbound and southbound lanes on State Route 25 (Dixon Springs Highway) in Carthage. The rockslide occurred near the Cumberland River Overlook and south of Massey Road shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday morning. 

TDOT Geotechnical and Design staff are on location assessing the slide.  An emergency contract will be let to complete removal of larger rock and perform any necessary stabilization work.  As a precautionary measure, both lanes of State Route 25 will remain closed until all the rock can be removed and the road repaired.  It is unknown at this time how long it will take to remove the rock and reopen the road.

To get around the rockslide, drivers must use the detour in place from State Route 263 (Main Street/Hartsville Pike/Turkey Creek Road) to State Route 85 (Defeated Creek Highway) to State Route 80 (Pleasant Shade Highway).
