West Tennessee Veterans Home Committee to Discuss Ongoing Fundraising Efforts

Monday, June 17, 2013 | 06:49am

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs Assistant Commissioner Mark Breece will continue to assist the West Tennessee Veterans Home Committee as they continue to raise the local portion needed to construct the proposed State Veterans Home for West Tennessee.

A combination of federal, state and local funding will be needed to construct the proposed Veterans Home.  Federal funding will not pay for land acquisition which will have to be provided through state and local funding.  The proposed West Tennessee State Veterans Home will serve veterans in Fayette, Shelby and Tipton Counties

Governor Bill Haslam appropriated $50,000 in his budget for fiscal year 2013-2014 for the state portion which was approved by the Tennessee General Assembly.

The West Tennessee Veterans Home Committee has raised $24,000 in local funding.

The committee will meet on Wednesday, June 19 at noon at Balmoral Presbyterian Church 6413 Quince Road in Memphis.  The meeting will be chaired by Holly Swogger.  Topics for discussion will include ongoing fundraising efforts and new sub-committees.  The committee is also actively recruiting more community member involvement and would like to invite citizens interested in supporting the proposed West Tennessee State Veterans Home to attend the upcoming meeting.
