Grand Opening for Expanded Rutherford County WIC Clinic

NASHVILLE  – Tennessee Health Commissioner John Dreyzehner, MD, MPH, will join other state and local officials on Wednesday, June 19, for the grand opening celebration at the newly renovated Women, Infants and Children clinic at the North Rutherford County Health Department in Smyrna.

The Rutherford County WIC clinic provided more than 24,000 client encounters in the past year, with more than 9,600 of those served at the Smyrna facility. More than $4 million in WIC vouchers have been redeemed in Rutherford County during that time.

The Rutherford County Health Department received a nearly $700,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture to assist with renovations at the Smyrna clinic. Improvements have involved expanding space to include two new exam rooms, two community education classrooms and a demonstration kitchen.
