I-24 at Epps Mill Road in Murfreesboro Reduced to One Lane

This Weekend for Bridge Repair

Nashville, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close one lane on Interstate 24 Eastbound in Murfreesboro this weekend in order to begin repairing the Epps Mill Road Bridge.   The bridge was damaged back in February after a truck hauling a large backhoe was too high to clear the bridge.

I-24 Eastbound, at mile marker 89 at the Buchanan Road/Epps Mill Road exit, will be reduced to one lane beginning Saturday, July 20th, at 8:00 a.m. through noon.   One lane will remain open.

During this weekend’s lane closures, workers will be taking measurements in order to attach a new steel plate to the bridge beam on Epps Mill Road.  There will be two more weekend closures between now and the project’s estimated completion date of August 31st, 2013.  Those closures will allow crews to repair the bridge beam and attach the new steel plate.  The cost for these repairs is $121,744.

TDOT will use overhead and portable message boards to alert motorists of the lane closures. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and expect delays. Law enforcement officers will be on site in the work zone to provide traffic control as the work is being completed. TDOT also asks drivers to use caution, reduce their speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in work zones across the state.
