RMSI Officer Assaulted By Death Row Inmate

NASHVILLE – Last night at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution, an incident occurred involving an assault on an officer.   Death row inmate Heck Van Tran used hot water to assault an officer.  The officer was treated by medical personnel.  Mr. Tran has received a disciplinary infraction of assault on staff.  The Office of Investigation and Compliance is currently investigating the incident.

Although preliminary investigations show no security protocols were violated, TDOC will continuously review and evaluate security protocols to ensure the safety of our staff and the community.
