JASPER – The Department of Correction is committed to enhancing public safety in Tennessee. One way it aims to do that is by offering career-planning assistance to offenders under TDOC supervision.

The Department of Correction Employment Specialist will team up with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce to bring its mobile Career Coach to Jasper on February 25, 2014. The Career Coach provides assistance to probationers and parolees in need of employment. The bus is equipped with a dozen computers, internet access and help from “career coaches” who assist individuals searching for employment and creating proper resumes.

“Our main responsibility is to assist with reintegrating offenders back into the workforce,” says Stephen Darrow, an employment specialist with TDOC. “Offenders are paying bills and they’re not out committing crimes. They get a steady pay-check, gain more confidence in themselves, and formulate a career-plan.”
