Hunting Seasons 2014-15 Preview Set for TFWC’s April 24-25 Meeting

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will present a preview and recommendations for the 2014-15 hunting and trapping seasons at the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission’s April meeting.

The meeting will be held April 24-25 at the TWRA Region II Ray Bell Building (Thursday-Friday). Thursday’s committee meetings begin at 1 p.m. The formal meeting starts at 9 a.m., Friday.

Wildlife and Forestry Division Chief Daryl Ratajczak will give the 2014-15 hunting seasons’ preview. The presentation will include recommendations to proclamations in regard to non-protected wildlife and species deemed destructive, big game hunting seasons, dove seasons and regulations, Wildlife Management Area hunting seasons, National Wildlife Refuge and other federal areas hunting seasons. Historical information on the TWRA hunting programs will also be presented.

The TFWC usually set the state’s annual hunting seasons at its May meeting. The annual hunting and trapping regulations are effective Aug, 1 through July 31.  Waterfowl hunting seasons are established at the October meeting.

A report on the recently-held Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (SEAFWA) event held in Gatlinburg pertaining to bear attack response training will be given. Officials from 13 southeastern states and several federal agencies received training in responding to and investigating serious animal attacks.
