Traffic Shift Planned on Broad Street in Rutherford County
Lanes Reduced from Seven to Five
Murfreesboro, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) contract crews plan to shift traffic on Broad Street (SR 1) in Murfreesboro. Weather permitting, crews have tentatively scheduled to start work Thursday, April 10 and it could take several days to completely shift traffic.
Thursday April 3 through Tuesday April 8, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each day, there will be alternating lane closures on Old Fort Parkway (SR 96), Broad Street and College Street in order to prepare for the new traffic shift. Once the new traffic pattern is in place, there will be two travel lanes in each direction and a turn lane. The new traffic pattern will be in place for the next year and will allow crews to safely perform road and utility work.
In addition to this new traffic pattern, in a few weeks the intersection of College Street and Memorial Blvd. will also be closing for utility work and grading activities. This closure will eliminate access into and from College Street at its intersection with Memorial.
This traffic shift is part of the project to completely reconstruct the intersection of Broad St. (SR 1) and Memorial Blvd./Old Fort Parkway (SR 96/SR 10) by creating a single point urban interchange. The project will create a new bridge on Memorial Blvd. that will cross over Broad Street. The $17.6 million project is expected to be completely finished in early summer of 2016.
