One Boating-Related Fatality Reported over Memorial Day Holiday Weekend

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is reporting that there was one boating-related fatality reported over the 2014 Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The fatality came on Memorial Day morning. James Edward Arnett (67) of Knoxville was launching his boat from a trailer when the incident occurred on Douglas Lake near Inspiration Point Campground on Muddy Creek in Jefferson County. The boating fatality was the first on the long Memorial Day weekend since 2010.

Across the state, the TWRA Boating and Law Enforcement Division reports 12 total accidents, three of which resulted in injuries. TWRA boating officers made 11 boating under the influence (BUI) arrests, the same number as over the 2013 Memorial Day weekend.

So far in 2014, there have been seven boating fatality accidents. Fifteen incidents have resulted in injuries and there have been 20 property damage incidents.
