Tennessee Kicks off Summer Training Geared Toward Reaching All Tennessee Teachers

Monday, June 09, 2014 | 07:03am

The Tennessee Department of Education invites you to join the third summer of educator-led training designed to help Tennessee teachers grow student achievement. Throughout June and July, the department will once again offer optional, free training on the state’s math and English standards, this time with the goal of giving access to every teacher in Tennessee.

As in previous years, the state has worked with Core Coaches, expert Tennessee teachers, to facilitate training for their peers. Next week, nearly 500 Core Coaches will facilitate training to teams of Learning Leaders, educators selected by their school and district. Upon completion of summer training, these Learning Leaders will then re-deliver the same content to teachers at their school or in their district. The department will also offer additional training on the state’s math and English standards directly to teachers later in the summer.

Reporters are encouraged to attend the opening session on June 10 from 8-9 a.m. (local time). Media who choose to stay beyond the opening session are welcome to attend grade- and content-specific sessions afterward. Site leaders and Core Coaches will be available to answer questions prior to the opening session. Reporters can come to any day of training throughout the summer, but Tuesday, June 10 likely will be best, as the opening sessions provide the most context.

WHEN:                 Tuesday, June 10, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. (local time), the schedule is the same at all sites
