I-65 / State Route 248 Bridge Implosion

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews imploded a newly built bridge at State Route 248 (Peytonsville Road / Goose Creek Bypass) over I-65 in Williamson County on Saturday, September 20.

Traffic near the interchange was temporarily stopped and kept at a safe distance from the bridge implosion. The interstate is scheduled to remain closed, with limited use of the on- and off-ramps at State Route 248, until Monday morning.

Demolition crews used explosives to bring down the concrete and steel beams of the structure. The bridge was under construction beside an older bridge as part of a larger, ongoing project to widen State Route 248 and I-65. Both bridges were damaged beyond repair by a tanker truck fire last month. ###
