More than 80 new TLETA graduates complete Basic Police School training

NASHVILLE – More than 80 newly trained law enforcement officers graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy (TLETA) on March 13, 2015.

The newly certified officers comprising Basic Police School Class 1743 join the ranks of thousands of law enforcement officers across Tennessee who studied at TLETA and went on to be commissioned by state and local law-enforcement agencies.

At the conclusion of the 10-week course (held from Jan.4 - March 13), graduates have the technical and tactical training as well as the ethical and professional standards of law enforcement that are necessary for success. This is the first of five Basic Police School classes that will be held in 2015.

Class 1743’s members will serve a variety of law enforcement agencies, including the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Tennessee State Parks, Vanderbilt University, Nashville International Airport and the following police departments (PD) and sheriffs’ offices (SO):

Alcoa PD, Carter County SO, Centerville PD, Clarksville PD, Clay County SO, Cheatham County SO, Collierville PD, Columbia PD, Coffee County SO, Crossville PD, Cumberland County SO, Dickson PD, Dickson County SO, Dyersburg PD, Fayetteville PD, Franklin County SO, Gallatin PD, Goodlettsville PD, Hamblen County SO, Hamilton County SO, Henderson PD, Jackson County SO, Lake County SO, Lawrence County SO, Lenoir City PD, Lewis County SO, Livingston PD, Macon County SO, Madison County SO, Martin PD, Marshall County SO, Milan PD, Maury County SO, Moore County SO, Mount Pleasant PD, Munford PD, Murfreesboro PD, Roane County SO, Robertson County SO, Rutherford County SO, Shelbyville PD, Smith County SO, Stewart County SO, Sullivan County SO, Sumner County SO, Trousdale County SO, Union City PD, Waverly PD, White County SO, Williamson County SO, and Woodbury PD.

The graduation speaker was Roane County Sheriff Jack Stockton.

About the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy: TETLA was authorized by the 1963 General Assembly for the purpose of training state, county and city law enforcement officers. The Academy is located on a 55-acre parcel at 3025 Lebanon Pike in Donelson. The first class began October 17, 1966 and since that time thousands of officers have received

training at the Academy. The Academy functioned as an independent commission until it was brought under the Department of Safety in 1983 by Executive Order. It was transferred to the Department of Commerce and Insurance by Executive Order on July 1, 2006. In 1999, the Academy was awarded accreditation by the Commission on Law Enforcement Accreditation Inc., (CALEA), along with other Department of Safety law enforcement divisions.
